National Napping Day

Did you know that there is a National Napping Day? I admit, when I first read it, I thought it said "Mapping" instead of "Napping," because it seemed more likely. Turns out though that two Boston University professors created National Napping Day back in 1999. With Daylight Savings Time sucking an hour of the day away from many of us, their thought was that this particular Monday would be well served by a nap.

The Eight Significant Advantages of Napping (per the professors):

  1. Napping improves mood - makes you feel better
  2. Napping improves performance - makes you more productive
  3. Napping is no cost - no expensive clothes or equipment needed
  4. Napping is no sweat - no shower needed
  5. Napping is self prescribed - no doctor’s orders needed
  6. Napping is non-fattening - you cannot eat while napping
  7. Napping is a non-invasive procedure - no one does anything to you
  8. Napping has no dangerous side effects - unless you are driving
Personally, napping tends to make me sluggish the rest of the day (or I forget to turn on an alarm and I end up sleeping unintentionally for hours on end). I know for others, a nap invigorates and refreshes the mind and body for the rest of the day.

So what say you to naps? Yay or nay?
