Tools for Training

Technology is invading our lives at rapid speed and changing the way we do everything. Can you remember when you didn't have access to the internet from your cell phone and had to drag out the phone book from the trunk of your car to find the number you needed? Perhaps that was just me...

Anyway, seeing as we're always with our mobile devices and many of us spend days in front of the computer, it makes sense that fitness apps are proliferating. While scrolling through my phone I saw I had no fewer than 4 apps installed specifically around nutrition or working out. Here are a couple of examples:

Food and workout tracking: MyFitnessPal
Enter the foods you're eating by searching their massive database or by entering items manually. You can also track your weight, enter your workouts, and get estimates of calories burned. There is also a social aspect where you connect with friends who can cheer you on virtually.

Distance, Speed, and Elevation: RunKeeper
RunKeeper uses the GPS function in your smartphone to track your distance and speed of activities like walking, running, and cycling. It also tracks elevation. If you choose the option, it will even talk to you during your workout, giving you time and distance updates at specified intervals.

There seem to be some who love tracking everything via new technology and those who think it's just too much overanalyzing. What are your thoughts? What apps do you use?

Disclosure: The inclusion of these apps on this blog post does not imply endorsement of any kind.
